This was one of the most uplifting and pleasurable gigs I've seen in a long time. The band are consummate players, but deliver a show that exudes the joy they feel in their craft. The bass, drums, horn section, keyboards groove, jab, and swirl emphatically. Congas add essential spice and propulsion to the soul/jazz/funk rhythms. Extrovert singer/guitarist Neil Jones is the focal point for a set that draws heavily from the excellent new record 'A Life Unlimited', mixed with choice tunes from the back catalog.
Jones has no trouble motivating the crowd through some tricky 'audience participation' vocal contributions. His only gaffe was introducing the trumpet player as baritone sax player, which just widened the grin that was permanently on his face. And big grins on faces is how everyone left the venue. Stone Foundation are a 'must see' live experience. Take the earliest opportunity to do so.
