I've known about this band for a while now and was so excited to see them open for Young The Giant. They are a very talented group and would highly recommend seeing them! I hope they come back to New York soon.
Band was very straight to business. Not too much for showmanship but sounded wonderful. If you are expecting an interactive experience look elsewhere. However, if you enjoy their music, seeing them live is well worth it. Violinist and Cellist rock!
Ra Ra Riot has a very unique indie rock sound that you are not likely to hear to often, but once you do hear it you can't help but be overwhelmed by happy and daydream like feelings.
One of the best songs to demonstrate this would be when they perform "Boy" live. It's one of those songs that immediately pulls you in and gives you the feeling of childhood all over again. You get the sense that you are back in the time when you didn't have to worry about bills and other stresses of life. This kind of feeling carries on through the entire performance and is made even better by the fact that in choosing an open stage you are able to see each artists play their instruments throughout the entire performance and at the same time see their expression and body movements through the entire show.
Wes Miles makes a point of focusing his attention of the audience while also encouraging his fellow band mates to move around the stage with him and enjoy their performance along with the audience. The timing of the music and the singing couldn't be any better and the best part is you know Wes is singing live rather then singing over a per-recording. This happens far to often with supposed live performances and this is what makes Ra Ra Riot one of those bands that I always want to see perform because I know I am getting what I paid for.
Wes Miles also goes to great lengths to carry his voice and put a lot of emotion into each song which in turn gives you the feeling and the sense that he wrote the song with the intention of truly expressing it to others rather then just a money grab or for popularity.
Additionally, the way that the band is dressed gives you the feeling of being in a small venue even though the stage is much bigger then that because they all appear as though they randomly joined together at the last minutes to create something truly unique and special.
