We loved the concert, I was surprised at the audience, lots of young middle age and older. We have been to new Orleans at least 6 or seven times and spent time in preservation hall, which by the way is a real treat. The band was amazing and gave everything they had as well as Allen Toussaint people were rocking in their seats and dancing down by the stage, the concert was really just right time wise, but when they came back for another 20 minutes after all the clapping from the crowd, it was the crown of the evening. We are in our 70's and just love all that music. The musician were beyond amazing and allen himself was just his usual friendly and talented best.
I learned the existence of Allen Toussaint by his last album 'The Bright Mississippi', which came out in 2009 and I loved all the songs of this band immediately. I was tipped by SongKick of the performance of Allen Toussaint on the 13th of April 2014 at Paradiso Amsterdam and I joined his performance.
How was I surprised that his solo performance, in my opinion, had nothing to do with the music of his band. For me, it was really ridiculous how the man was playing his piano as a kind of 'pianola' (a mechanical piano) and being dressed as a clown in a multicolored jacket. I left sadly the 'concert' after one hour.
