There is no doubt that Anna Kendrick is one of the hottest stars in Hollywood at present following her success with box office hit, Pitch Perfect, and her string of starring roles before including her breakthrough as a supporting actress in Twilight, 50/50 and more. What you may not know about Kendrick is that this 29 years young pint sized actress/songstress was on Broadway at the age of 12, when she starred in High Society (1998), for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. Still not convinced? Her rendition of “The Cups Song (When I’m Gone)”, rekindling the fire of what was once a bluegrass classic by The Carter Family, written almost 90 years ago, peaked at #6 in the Billboard Charts, and has amassed 150,000,000 views on YouTube.
As a live singer, Kendrick has almost twenty years experience under her belt, and it reflects in her performances, especially at the Trevor Awards, fellow performers being Wicked’s Kristen Chenoweth and Glee’s Matthew Morrison.
She showcases a grounded but bold stage presence, more on the theatre end of her repertoire, taking to the stage with Kristen Chenoweth, and singing the power ballad duet from Wicked, “For Good”, a song which marries vocal acrobatics and depth, which combined, move an audience. She appears a little beside herself about singing with one of the Broadway heavy weights, Chenoweth, who is no doubt a trail blazer for a star like Anna Kendrick, clearly a double threat with her singing and acting. She definitely has a bright future ahead of her.
