Biography
Originally formed of the duo Vito De Luca and Stephen Fasano (otherwise known as The Magician), Aeroplane formed in Brussels in 2007 and was a duo until Fasano’s departure in 2010. Aeroplane has made a name for itself producing eclectic disco-induced cosmic tracks that combine French House and Balearic Beat together, inspired by the enviable disco and soundtrack work of Giorgio Moroder.
The duo’s recording debut came in 2007 with their “Aeroplane” single released on Eskimo Records, which was followed up by the single “Pacific Air Race” later in the year. Before Aeroplane released anything like studio album they released a number of well-received remixes from Cut Copy’s “Hearts on Fire”, Friendly Fires’ “Paris”, Grace Jones’ “Williams’ Blood” and MGMT’s “Electric Feel”, which led to the duo receiving lots of radio airplay, with particular reference to the UK’s BBC Radio 1 where the duo was the 500th DJ to perform on the Essential Mix.
Aeroplane’s full-length debut titled “We Can’t Fly” was released September 27, 2010 following over a year of studio work. The album received positive critical reviews and features pop songs written and performed by Vito de Luca with cameos from Au Revoir Simone, Merry Clayton, Sky Ferreira and Jonathan Jeremiah.
Since the studio album there has been no let-up in the output from de Luca producing over 20 remixes including Justin Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie”, Kimbra’s “Two Way Street” and We Were Evergreen’s “Daughters” as well as collaborations with €urocrats and Beateria released on de Luca’s own Aeropop label.
Live reviews
With neighbouring Netherlands and Germany offering some of the world's most internationally successful dance and EDM offerings, it is no wonder Belgian musicians would be inspired to create their own brand of dance. That is exactly what Vito de Luca better known as Aeroplane has done with his nu-disco sounds.
A huge name in his homeland and a growing international reputation has seen him play to larger and larger crowds and since going solo in 2010, Vito has gained complete creative control. He is offering something different to the worlds of house and dance and this is clearly needed by fans who snap his tickets up fast. With complex visuals and retro beats, the live show is without a doubt an unusual experience yet it is tremendous fun. Vito seems to be having a great time too as he often breaks from his own musical trance to raise his hands to the crowd and salute their energy. He brings it home with an extended mix of 'In Her Eyes' cut with a remix of Friendly Fires' 'Paris' which has the whole room united in dance to the very final beat.
There are a lot of DJ’s all doing the same thing these days, but I guess you could say the same thing about plumbers and electricians, but with hard work and passion, there is definitely room for anyone out there in the music industry, you’ve just got to find your niche! Aeroplane, apart from being a very difficult name to search for online after being a friend’s plus one on a guest list to his performance tonight in his home country of Belgium. Tonight he performed a slew of his songs from his album “We Can’t Fly” which with every beat, every drop and every build up, he lifts the roof off the venue a little bit more and more with each song. It really is the title track of this full-length album, which by the way took 12 months in the studio, that makes this audience tick. There are some pretty awesome moments throughout this set for example when he throws in his remix of Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z's smash hit. “Suit & Tie”.
The show was not I would expected.
Just one hour of good music, then they relaxed.
They spent to much time checking their phones and not concentrate playing.
Anyway, I enjoyed but they used do it better.
