I’m not sure what there is that’s left to say about Quincy Jones; the legendary producer, known best in pop terms for his work with Michael Jackson, has won an astonishing twenty-seven Grammy awards over the course of his career, including a Grammy Legend award, and picking up a record seventy-nine nominations along the way. His work on film scores and soundtracks, including the former for 1967’s In Cold Blood, saw him smash down racial barriers at the Academy Awards, and last year, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in honour, first and foremost, of his achievements as a jazz trumpeter. Indeed, Jones is a musician before anything else, and only last year took to the stage for a slew of shows across the world that celebrated his eightieth birthday. Where better to kick off, too, than the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland; accompanied by a full orchestra and a slew of guest vocalists, Jones led his fellow musicians through a near three-hour sets that touched upon his own classics and other jazz standards. Any UK shows that he might slot in would be very special indeed - the chance to see a legend in the flesh.
The concert was amazing, touching, inspiring, electrifying. Quincy was radiating such a peace and joy, he turned the whole concert into a unique party. Incredible musicians, wow, the hall was vibrating, everybody was dancing..
Thank you, Quincy Jones!!!
I flew over from Berlin to see Quincy again, we had met last November in LA, I would have loved to talk about an idea for a movie, he'd be the right one for it, he has so much love, genius and wideness...unfortunately it was not possible, hope there is an another occasion.
