Metalcore is usually too intense for me, or at least that’s what I thought until my friend encouraged me to go with her to a Sworn In show. When you’re listening to recordings of heavy metal music, it’s easy to get distracted by the fusion of all the different sounds, but seeing them perform live was a totally different experience, as all of the different instruments became clear in their own right, and the way that every band member interacted with each other to generate their huge sound was awesome.
Their performance quality was incredible, and they didn’t stop dancing or head banging for the entire set, which was almost 2 hours long, so their stamina was incredible! They opened the show with their track Catharsis from their debut EP, and Tyler Dennen shouted out ‘everybody, if you know what I’m singing, why aren’t you singing too?’, which had everyone in the crowd immediately join in, which heightened the atmosphere even more.
They played a good selection of their music, and even played their album Death Card in it’s entirety, which was really cool to hear live, especially when they inserted bits of improvisation in the songs.
Amazing show! Too bad it was so short. Tyler is an awesome frontman, even while he was sick with the flu, he got up there and put on a great performance (minus the puking). Always involving the audience and interacting Tyler really got everyone going, inviting the audience to join him onstage. I just wish they had played a longer set. They opened with Sunshine and came back for a single song encore playing Hypocrisy. All in all, I think they played about 8 songs...way to short, but amazing nonetheless! Can't wait to see them again!
Sworn In is one of my favorite bands and they are beyond amazing live. They get the crowd excited and they interact with the crowd the whole entire time. They gave a speech also and I personally love it when bands take the time to do that. You should definitely see Sworn In sometime in your life.
