Although indie pop is an incredibly common genre of music in the mainstream industry at the moment, Buke and Gase have made their sound interesting and original through their use of handmade instruments. Both Arone Dyer, and Aron Sanchez are multi-instrumentalists, and have created the ‘buke’, their six strink ukulele, and the gase, the guitar/bass combination, amongst many others.
I was intrigued to see them play live and experience how they use these instruments to their potential to improve the sound of their music. I’ve been following their journey in the industry since back in 2008 when they released their first EP +/- They opened the show with an instrumental solo which got the crowd on their side, and had everyone cheering for them to start their set properly. They then moved onto General Dome, their most recent album, and played it in its entirety. They also intertwined it with some of their older tracks from previous EPs, so it was great to hear how their sound has progressed over the years.
They were both really good at interacting with the audience, and Arone Dyer’s smooth voice would alternate between melody, and a shout to get the audience singing and dancing along which was great.
