Susana Baca who is originally from the capital city of Peru in South America is a Peruvian singer of Afro-Peruvian descent, which is a little bit of a revival that she is leading in this present day. She launches straight into a song called “Lamento Negro”, which has this audience’s complete attention, letting the music make them sway ever so organically. Baca sings the opening lines of the verse and has the undivided attention of this audience. The instrumentation around her is ever so unique with a nylon strung classical guitar, a violin, a percussionist on a cajon and surrounded by congas, and a double bass. The sound before me is so relaxing, and I am absolutely astounded at how young Baca sounds when I close my eyes and just let the music wash over me. It’s a very cleansing experience to say the least. “Plena Y Bomba” closes the set, and receives such a worthy applause. I would definitely go and see her Susana Baca perform again. It is just such an amazing experience.
