What to say? It was everything I hoped to get when I happened to catch them on Tiny Desk Concerts and immediately vowed to see them live. Touring with extra bass and keyboard players, Alex is a force of nature, while Noah is also stellar out of the spotlight on skins. As I posted to a old favorite artist of mine, I found it natural to just give way to the joy. She may be a novice but she amazes with driving rhythm guitar (and some riffs) as she dances around the stage, and delivers exhilarating punk vocals "in a skirt." Wearing jeans and a Atlanta tee shirt, she disposes quickly of any notion of reserved appreciation. She grabs you by the belt buckle in a wonderful attractive if not blatantly sexy performance. She epitomizes what we love about American women: she is supremely confident but not conceited and a whirlwind of generosity, alive and with overwhelming Joie de vivre for her new found art genre - PUNK. She made this trippy old man feel alive again, at least for an hour. Look out world. Go see them. You're in for a real treat.
This was a disappointing show for me, and it was not Diet Cig's fault. This sold out show at Boot and Saddle was way oversold. It was extremely crowded and very, very difficult to hear since virtually everyone around me was having shouted conversations. Additionally, people were overserved, as I had to hear (from all sides) how drunk everyone was. Great for them, but not so great for me, since I could barely hear the show over their shouting. I don't know what could be done about this at the venue level, but it was honestly one of the worst shows I've been to in a long time. I actually left 3-4 songs into the Diet Cig set because I couldn't enjoy it. What a shame.
This was hands down the best show I've seen. The music was incredible live and I loved seeing the band on stage in person. There was one moment where a few guys were being really obnoxious and seemed to be trying to get behind the curtain separating the floor from backstage and she immediately called them out. There was just a overwhelmingly loving and caring vibe the entire time and the bits between songs where she makes a little fun of Idaho were really funny. (It was also great to see Nigel the penguin in person)
I saw Diet Cig headline last year (when they were a duo) and open last night (there’s now a keyboardist/backup singer) and both times was impressed with their performance. The band puts on a super fun show. Lead singer/guitarist Alex has an unbelievable amount of energy (and talent!) and really engages with the audience in an endearing way. If you’re a fan of pop/punk, check them out!
I heard about this band a while ago, and ever since I listened to “Harvard”, I can’t stop playing their songs on repeat. Seeing Alex and Noah live was a dream come true-they’re so energetic and fun, and their opening bands didn’t disappoint either. If you love feminist punk-pop and lots of glitter, you will adore Diet Cig.
Pure distilled energy in musical form. The entire show including waiting for silence and daddy issues was amazing. Great crowd interaction and stage presence! Highly recommended if you like dancing awkwardly in public! Great time.
From their vibrant energy to the cutest merch, Diet Cig is all around a solid band. On top of the incredible performance, they are the nicest, funniest people you'll meet. Do yourself a favor, go see them live, you wont regret it.
an absolute blast, amazing venue and diet cig (and every other band) were outstanding! they really connected well with the crowd and the energy was high for all of the bands. definitely a band(s) to see again!
Super fun, very engaging and kept the crowd pumped. Mic was quiet so it was hard to sing a long, but it was a lot of fun otherwise and I'm stoked to see them again next time they're in Kansas.
