Growing up in a small town as an Indonesian-German Kartini often feels different. Inbetween chairs. Music and poetry played a huge role in the process of finding herself as an artist and also as a person. At the age of thirteen, she wrote her first song in English, inspired by the movie “Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging”. Ultimately she knew she wanted to have a band and become a famous singer-songwriter.

Kartini has diverse musical influences. Being born in the nineties the music of R&B artists like Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera coined her singing style significantly. Later Pop-Punk-Bands like Paramore and singer-songwriters like City and Color would impact her style of writing lyrics.

But it wasn’t until she discovered Florence + the Machine and Lana del Rey that Kartini knew it was Indie Pop she was supposed to make. With her newfound passion for writing deep lyrics and singing soulfully in an edgy manner, she made her solo debut in 2020 with the ballad Space for you. The reception of the song was overwhelmingly positive and it grew to become a public favorite at live concerts. Two years later three of her songs have reached 10K streams and 'Fire' already is at 85K all-time streams. The music video for 'Devil in Disguise' has been played 113.000 times on YouTube.
