The acclaimed guitarist and composer, Trond Kallevåg, presents his brand-new work and album "Amerikabåten", along with some of the country's foremost young musicians.
Guitarist and composer Trond Kallevåg has, in a few short years, established himself as one of the most exciting guitarists and composers in Norway today. Several foreign reviewers have drawn parallels to guitar greats like Bill Frisell and Ry Cooder. His two releases on the Hubro label, "Bedehus & Hawaii" and "Fengselsfugl," were praised by Norwegian and international critics for their honest and lyrical expression. The albums were recorded in the studio of Geir Sundstøl, who also contributed on the steel guitar, perfectly matching Trond's affection for atmospheric film music, subtle church sacralness, and Polynesian exotica.
"Amerikabåten" takes its starting point in the great dream and the journey towards it, life aboard the America boats that transported Norwegians to America until the mid-20th century. Many experienced the sea as a liberal haven where one dared to be oneself without the constraints of the time. The crossing had a hypnotic allure for those who did not fit in, often an unholy mix of neo-religious and lawless elements.
