‘I won’t say I hope you’re happy with him. I promised myself this year I would tell the truth. I’ll pretend my heart’s not breaking. It’s taking everything I have not to call you.’…as the lyrics of arguably Handgun’s most famous track, I Hope He Kills You, rang out through the auditorium before the lights came up, the entire audience erupted into cheers, and when Taylor Eby shouted, ‘everybody together’, everyone joined in with the chorus. It was an incredible start to the show, and the best way to get everyone hyped up and energised for the rest of the show.
Their poppy punk sound is a great fusion towards the heavy genre, as they’ve made it more accessible to a mainstream audience by the addition of their catchy hooks and riffs in their choruses. They played through the entirety of their new album, Life Lessons, and I think we were one of the first audiences to hear it live, which was a great experience.
All of the band are incredibly talented, and hearing Brandon and Kyle smash out incredible guitar solos was something that you just can’t appreciate on their studio recordings, and made it totally worth seeing them live.
