His 2012 debut 'Make Me Believe In Hope', and his 2014 sophomore album 'Life Is Easy' have won fans across the world, impressively including Pet Shop Boys, Scissor Sisters and Sir Elton John who chose him to open up 55 shows across the world for him between June 2014 and July 2015.
Named "the boy Robyn in all but name" by NME, his dancefloor appeal and strong pop sensibilities have been noted. As well as touring the world with Elton John, his songwriting has won him tours with Ellie Goulding, Tinashe, Erasure and Scissor Sisters, shows with Kylie, Grace Jones, Chic and Herculed & Love Affair, as well as his own sold-out shows across the globe.
DJ Times calls his music 'Cinematic glorious euphoria" - fitting for an artist taking his name from Gremlins, his favourite 80s film. And while his name and influences nod to nostalgia and his upbringing, his music is focused on the now. 'Life Is Easy', his UK and US charting album, is centred around making the most of what you have, and living in the moment - a message that has resonated profoundly with his fans on the world tour. Including collaborations with Sir Elton, Del Marquis of Scissor Sisters and The Invisible Men (Rita Ora, Iggy Azalea) and Ian Masterson (Belinda Carlisle, Dannii Minogue), it lushly combines dance beats and pop textures with harmonies, chorals and piano to create its uplifting and immersive world.
Saturday, November 12, 2016. Headed to Amsterdam for the concert I was looking forward to for many weeks and weeks: Bright Light Bright Light. After finding the venue, the Sugarfactory, quite quickly, I walked into the tiniest venue ever I went to to see a concert. But that made the whole experience just better and better. The audience (about 50, mostly gay men) were treated with a great show with strong vocals from Rod Thomas, the man behind Bright Light Bright Light. The strong lyrics and dancy disco tunes that make the CD's such a joy to listen to really came to life on that tiny stage where the band (6 men & women) played. Rod Thomas was in a cheerful mood and talked with his audience and seemed to have a great time. Just like that small crowd called his audience. After the show he took time to talk to his fans, sell CD's, sign them for the fans and lots of photos with the fans were taken. Absolutely one of my highlights this year!
