Greg Osby is a saxophonist, composer, producer, educator and curator, who has been a formidable presence on the international music scene as a leader of his own ensembles and as a guest artist with other acclaimed groups for the past 39 years. Highly regarded for his insightful and innovative approach to composition and performance, Osby is an inspired voice among the ranks of improvising musicians. He has earned numerous awards and critical acclaim for his recorded works and passionate live appearances and has been recognized by The New York Times as one of the "most provocative musical thinkers of his generation".
Osby has worked with a who's who of top jazz artists from Herbie Hancock, Dizzy Gillespie, Chic Corea and even the Grateful Dead. In 1985 he joined drummer Jack DeJohnette's seminal 'Special Edition', where he honed his improvisational skills and led to continued work together over many years. Quite simply, he is one of the best in the world!
Florian Arbenz first collaborated with Greg Osby back in 1998, that professional relationship has now lasted over 25 years. Florian has a long term trio with his pianist twin brother Michael Arbenz, which they called the Vein Trio, this trio collaborated with Osby as well as Dave Liebman, Ron Carter and most recently Andy Sheppard.
Greg & Florian have also worked as duo; however, this gig has come together as an American / European project especially for this gig. In comes talented UK pianist Ivo Neame (Phronesis, Marius Neset Quintet) and French bassist François Moutin (Martial Solal, Monty Alexander, Archie Shepp), to work in tandem with the pair.
This may well turn out to be the highlight of the Jazzata programme for 2026..
