One night only. Very good songs.
Lawrence Arabia is the moniker of Ōtautahi Christchurch-born songwriter James Milne. He's bringing his indie-pop anthems to the Town Hall stage, this time with Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. Warning - emotions may occur.
Milne has spent the past years quietly building an impressive résumé: winning the APRA Silver Scroll, the inaugural Taite Music Prize, collaborating with Lorde, Neil Finn and Split Enz, and composing for screen alongside Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement on "What We Do in the Shadows".
For one night only, hear Lawrence Arabia’s songs unfold with the brilliance of Christchurch Symphony Orchestra - familiar, refined, spectacular, and well worth paying attention to.
From the moment we walked into the Longplay bar in North Fitzroy and were greeted with a "welcome to my concert" from Lawrence himself we figured we were onto something special.
Lawrence myself and the other 30 audience members shared a beautiful, intimate musical experience over the next hour and a bit. Filled with the wonderful tunes, most complete with backstory - some hilariously so, we clapped and hollered ("thats entirely appropriate and the reason i do this stuff for") as the musical journey went deep and dark and finished cheerful, pointing to more great stuff to come in the future.
Endearing, approachable and a wicked sense of humour, wrapped up in a seriously talented performer, Lawrence is a must see.
