Ties Mellema, Gerard Mcchrystal, and Ian Wilson

At the heart of Voyagers is a newly-commissioned duo by acclaimed Irish composer Ian Wilson. This work for alto and baritone saxophones, tape, and live electronics is inspired by the ongoing journeys of NASA’s Voyager probes, launched in the 1970s, and the contents of their Golden Records. The music encapsulates the awe and ecstasy of humanity’s reach into the stars. The program also features Lera Auerbach’s haunting Prayer, new works by Irish composers Dave Flynn and Peter O’Doherty, and a new composition by Ties Mellema, incorporating live electronics and dance-like beats to deepen the sense of euphoria and cosmic wonder.
