Sunny Sweeney steps onstage dressed simply in a black shirt and blue jeans. She carefully tunes her guitar, then turns to address her audience in a friendly Texan drawl. After a few minutes of jokes and banter, she and the other two guitarists onstage start strumming a simple riff, and then she starts to sing “From A Table Away”, the hit single off her second album. Her voice fills the room, and it is not until the song ends that the audience, released from her spell, applauds with gusto. An American singer from Texas, Sweeney is the typical southern country singer, complete with a charming Texas accent, wavy blond hair, and a great voice. Her first album, Heartbreaker's Hall of Fame, was released in 2007 and contained the songs “Ten Years Pass”, “East Texas Pines” and “If I Could”, which are Sweeney's first regional singles. She followed that album with Concrete, released in 2011, and released her third and most recent album, Provoked, in 2014. Each album is better than the last.
Sunny Sweeney is not a woman to miss in concert. Her clever lyrics and catchy guitar tunes will have you up and dancing despite yourself, and her requests for audience participation will leave you clapping and singing along. For a night of fun and good music, go to a Sunny Sweeney concert.
