His breakout hit "Satisfaction," released in the summer of 2003, brought Benassi to international acclaim, reaching number two in the UK singles chart, with the track's success bolstered by the Ministry of Sound's rather raunchy music video of models using power tools. Prior to the release of "Satisfaction," Benassi had already achieved a number one in the UK club charts with his 2001 song "I Feel So Fine," released under the moniker KMC. His debut album, "Hypnotica" was widely received, winning the European Border Breakers award at the end of 2004, selling the most albums outside of his home country of Italy.
As well as his solo releases, Benassi has collaborated with a number of artists also throughout his career. Together with vocalists Paul French and Violeta, who are known collectively as The Biz, and alongside his cousin Alle, they have produced records under the name of Benassi Bros. The project put the spotlight on the two vocalists, as well as other guest singers, releasing the album "Pumphonia" and "…Phobia" to moderate success.
Benny Benassi's main forte is creating quality remixes of his contemporaries, with artists as diverse as OutKast, Goldfrapp and Felix da Housecat all getting the Benassi treatment. Benassi's remix of Public Enemy's classic track "Bring The Noise" was such a success it even won him a Grammy Award for the Best Remix (dance) in 2008. As well as his Grammy Award, Benassi has received many accolades and is consistently voted in the top 100 of DJ mag's list of Top 100 DJs, voted number 27 in 2011.
As well as producing his own music, Benassi also founded the record label, Pump-Kin Music, which focuses on releasing the work lesser known DJs and producers in order to aid their exposure worldwide.
Benassi has lent his production talent to established artists including Madonna, producing three tracks for her "MDNA" album. "Beautiful People" on Chris Brown's 2011 album "Fame" was also produced by Benassi. His 2010 song "Spaceship," featuring Kelis was another successful collaboration, reaching number 18 in the UK Dance singles chart.
Jack Patterson the then boyfriend of Grace Chatto would record compositions of Chatto’s and add drum beats and electronic effects to the mix. Interestingly, the band’s name Clean Bandit comes from a translation of a Russian phrase, which Patterson said is the equivalent to the English “utter rascal”.
The band is known for their ability to transcend genres, with classically trained members Grace Chatto and Neil Amin-Smith adding impressive compositions from the likes of Beethoven and Mozart. Zane Lowe BBC Radio 1 DJ has described Clean Bandit as making classical/orchestral music accessible to a wider audience, as well as adding notable house elements into their distinctive electronic style with fruitful results.
On the 29 March 2013 Clean Bandit released the song “Mozart’s House” which peaked at number 17 on the UK Singles Chart and was their first top twenty single. The band subsequently made a music video shot in Russia, which became an instant success.
In a groundbreaking BBC Radio 1 broadcast Clean Bandit along with five lead vocalists accompanied the 70-strong BBC Philharmonic orchestra in a 45-minute performance at Media City, Salford, UK. The orchestral instruments replicated the sound of the band’s synthesisers arranged by the composer Joe Duddell under Clean Bandit’s instruction to have no synth content whatsoever.
Clean Bandit’s fourth song “Rather Be” featuring Jess Glynne was released on 19th January, 2014, and reached the top of the UK Singles Chart becoming one of the fastest selling singles of the year. The song features on their debut album “New Eyes” which was released on 2nd June 2014.
Wow Swedish House Mafia.. Where do I even start?! I guess I'll start where I first heard them, I was on the bus home from school when "Save The World" came on & I was hooked. I began watching their concert videos and I knew I had to go to one. Especially after hearing it was their last tour :( Months after Months of begging for tickets, I had them! It was March 2nd, 2013, I had woken up with my two best friends next to me so excited to finally go to our first rave. The night before that we had spent hours making bracelets that read "We came. We raved. We loved" & other cool slogans. We had finally gotten to the arena & let me tell you, right from the outside you can tell its gonna be a crazy night! Everyone was dressed in crazy colors, SHM was blasting from portable radios and people were just dancing around having a great time. When we went inside we got our bracelets & went down to the pit where we had front row! When the music started we lost our minds and the rest was history. Swedish House Mafia sure didn't let us down. The laser show was incredible & the music flowed through our ears so loud yet so heavenly. Good vibes all around, probably one of the best days of my life. If I had the chance to see them again, I SO would. It breaks my heart that they're broken up but makes me smile that i actually got to see them live. I still listen to their music today & they sure have made history in my eyes.
One of the undisputed kings of house music, Benny Benassi live is an incredible rave experience you won’t ever forget (or, may not remember at all, depending how good your night is). Either way, whether you're an old-school raver or new to the electronic music wave, you're in for a treat with Benny Benassi. The Italian DJ, having dominated the charts in 2001 with his hit 'I Feel So Fine', and a year later on a global scale with the huuuge track 'Satisfaction', sealed his place as a maestro of floor-fillers. As long-time fans will know, Benassi's live shows are still always packed out, dance-all-night adventures, and an exhilaratingly energetic live experience. His original, fresh blend of heart palpitation-inducing bass and heavy thunderous drums, punctuated by loud electro twang and his shouts out to the crowd, culminate in an epically huge-sounding, ravingly good show.
When I saw Benny Benassi at the Electric Brixton, London, after the crowd warming up (i.e. everyone becoming a huge sweaty dancing mess) to the opening acts, Benassi's hour-long set was the icing on the cake for a venue filled with energetic, glow-stick waving party veterans. The light show and unrelenting dry-ice blasts added to the crazy, electrifying atmosphere, and guaranteed that no one left the venue before the wee hours. If you;re after an excellent party, don't miss Benny Benassi!
Clean Bandit completely delivers in their live show!
I first saw them as a support act for Bastille and was so blown away by their performance that I went home and downloaded all the tracks they had out. Not long after that their single “Rather Be” started to blow up and they announced their own headlining tour, conveniently coming to London on my birthday, so I of course immediately purchased tickets.
Based on their music, you could assume that it would be difficult for them to perform live since most of their tracks have guest singers and lots of musical elements. However, they completely pull it off. They bring two amazing singers with them on tour, Florence Rawlings and Elisabeth Troy, who switch on and off singing the main parts for each song with Elisabeth even rapping the Stylo G part on “Come Over”. The ladies are so energetic and their voices harmonize beautifully. In addition to the ladies, Grace sings on “Come Over” and Jack sings on “Dust Clears”. Plus, if you see them in London (and maybe other places but I can’t be sure) there’s even a special guest that they bring out for Mozart’s House (hint hint: it’s Love Ssega).
In terms of the music itself, all of the Clean Bandits are clearly accomplished musicians. Grace plays her cello beautifully and dances the whole time, Neil never seems to hit a bum note on his violin, Luke always looks super serious but kills it on the drums, and Jack is the ultimate multi-tasker switching from keyboard to synth and even to what appears to be an electric oboe at one point.
Their shows are always really upbeat and everyone in the audience dances the whole time. Even before they were a household name, the crowd couldn’t help but dance along. I highly recommend seeing them which shouldn’t be too hard, because they seem to be touring non-stop this year and hitting every major festival.
