It could be said that Gabriela was destined to have an artistic life after being born to two Latin entertainment legends: Movie icon Silvia Pinal and Rock and Roll legend Enrique Guzmán, from whom she cites as her inspiration and influence in art, music and spirituality. She holds the nickname La Reina del Rock (The Queen of Rock) due to her huge successes in Native Mexico, with more than 10 million albums sold, 16 released albums and 30 singles in radio’s Top 10 hits along with an accumulation of three Grammy award nominations over her career and one Latin Grammy Award for the 2002 album 'Soy'. Over her musical career she has had the fantastic opportunity to perform with legendary acts like James Brown and has even opened for Rolling Stones when they played in Mexico in 2006 which cemented her reputation as one of rock's most important figures in Mexico.
She is a personality as well as a musician in her homeland, acting as spokesperson of the campaign,'Your Rock is to Vote' promoting the right to vote among young people and participated in publicity campaigns for internationally renowned brands such as Miller Light, Jeep, Kraft and MAC Cosmetics. Away from the commercial light, Guzmán is known for her charitable work and has contributed to campaigns including Aids Health Foundation, The Mexican Aid Associations for Children with Cancer, and the CIE Foundation. In 2006 Alejandra raised money to finance alcohol and drugs rehabilitation programs whilst in May 2008 Alejandra acted as spokesperson for the SER campaign (SPTI) to promote breast cancer awareness.
I remember standing in a packed out arena, amongst thousands of silent fans whose anticipation levels were rising so high that a single pin dripping could have caused an aneurism. We were there to see a legend perform: to witness history. Alejandra Guzman, a Latina hero and icon, has sold over 10 million copies of her albums worldwide, toured with musical icons such as the Rolling stones and maintained a music career spanning over twenty years. Latin’s answer to Madonna, it is fair to say that she is no small deal. The cheers that erupted through the stadium as she made her entry on stage were phenomenal. Often referred to as ‘La Reina del Rock’ or ‘the Queen of rock’, you can no doubt see why. Opening with classic latin hit ‘un dia de suerte’ was a brilliant move, as the romantic crooning hit soothed the crowds emotions perfectly whilst also maintaining the high energy levels of the crowd. This was followed by the slower ‘mi peor error letra’ which had the entire stadium waving their arms from side to side: a sight quite incredible to see in such a large arena. Guzman covered a number of hits from all her albums as the show went on, showcasing all her best hits and leaving not a single fan disappointed.
