Originally starting as Escape The Fate’s Craig Mabbit’s side project in 2008, it wasn’t long before Tyler ‘Telle’ Smith took over lead vocals for metalcore band, The Word Alive. Before they even arrive on stage the atmosphere is electric, a sole drum beating like a gong with the lights down with classical vocals soaring across the top sees the crowd scream in sheer anticipation for their arrival. Opening with “The Entirety” the bar is raised from the opening chords as Telle’s signature guttural screams rumbles soar through the room. The floor shakes as the explosive energy is passed onto the crowd as bodies are flying left, right and centre through tracks like “The Hounds of Anubis” and “Fortune Teller”. You can tell it’s going to be a mental show when you have crowd surfers second song in and mosh pit opening up all over the shop. “The Wretched” and “Like Father, Like Son” prompts a chorus of voices as the crowd sing as loud as they can, while the band entices them to clap and jump along. Telle roars into the crowd with all his might, the sheer amounts of sweat dripping off the band is just a small indication of the passion and energy they put into their performances. With bands like these, hometown shows are extra special as they recall how far they’ve come and being in the position of the audience not so many years ago, and show their undying gratitude for the support. During “Room 126” Telle asks for the biggest circle pit, which expands across the diameter of the room as they run round and round until it’s just a blur. Known for their punchy and power packed shows you can expect to leave losing half your body weight in sweat!
