In Irish, “Port Noo” means “new harbor.” After New York, Berlin became just that
for musician Hannah Permanetter—a fresh start. The Süddeutsche Zeitung’s
Dirk Wagner once called her “one of the finest singer-songwriters Munich has
ever produced,” and now, her solo project is making waves.
Port Noo’s sound thrives on one thing: the sheer joy of blending influences from
wildly different genres and eras. One minute, she’s strumming an acoustic guitar
like Joni Mitchell; the next, she’s shredding an electric like Kim Deal. She stacks
backing vocals à la Aretha Franklin or the Beach Boys, then throws in a synth
bass line straight out of the late ’90s playbook—think Portishead, Gomez, or
Beck.
Mix in Hannah’s haunting vocals, her gift for infectious pop melodies, and her
sharp, introspective lyrics, and you get music that first wraps around you like a
warm, thoughtful embrace—only to catch you off guard with a wry, unexpected
grin.
After a seven-year hiatus—raising two kids, running a cultural café in Berlin, and
only occasionally stepping on stage—Hannah took the reins in autumn 2024.
Determined to work entirely on her own terms, she started crafting new Port
Noo tracks in her makeshift home studio, wearing the producer’s hat herself.
Searching for kindred spirits, she found actresses Rebecca Motzel and Paula
Leitner, who signed on as backing vocalists. The chemistry was electric, jolting
bassist Barbara Mayer (of Lemonbabies) out of a 20-year musical hiatus and
igniting the newly Berlin-based drummer and influencer Martina Barakoska.
The first single, “Everyone Is Sad,” droped on February 27, 2026, via Hamburg’s
feminist label Pussy Empire Recordings, with the EP “Standing On The Moon”
following on June 5, 2026. A German tour is set for June and July 2026!
