The Weirdos were MAGNIFIQUE. A tiny venue, and even then lightly attended by my standard, this venerable first-generation Los Angeles punk band (which I saw 2 years ago at Punk Rock Bowling here in Las Vegas, and before that in 1979 at the Starwood in Los Angeles) started off the first few songs sloppy (I believe due to sound problems) but after that came thru with flying colors. Jaw-dropping great, I believe the frontman is in his 60's but he acts like he's 30. It was great fun for all. The only "classic moronic slam" moment was for "Helium Bar" later in the set, which is to be expected, but during every other song I was able to stand close to the stage of a headlining punk band for the first time since maybe the 1970s, as the audience was jumping around in place, smiling, fist pumping and singing along the entire time. The opening bands were also quite good: The Vermin are regulars on the punk circuit here in town, geezers like me (one admitted being 49, a kid in my book!), and very amusing but fun, AND Agent 86 were more sloppy-arty than anything, but still entertaining. Overall, a great night, one sadly missed by way too many punk-loving souls out there in Las Vegas.
