With the launch of the third album just about to come out, Mànran sound different but still very good! They are one of the few Scottish folk bands that in my opinion are with the times and appeal to a young audience as well as old. It was fantastic to see them again.
Siobhan was ably supported by local lad Michael Timmons, who played interesting, slightly hypnotic guitar sounds with thoughtful and somewhat unusual lyrics. He's worth a listen.
Siobhan played a varied set of sad songs, funny songs, traditional songs and modern ones. She was interesting in her chat between songs too. This was a very small gig, really intimate and friendly. She even did her encore completely unplugged, almost in the audience!
Euan Burton on bass and vocals and Aaron Jones on mandolin, guitar and vocals performed really well too, keeping the musical accompaniment tight and showcasing Siobhan's amazing voice.
Siobhan has star quality!
Excellent all round.

Ben is just brilliant!
A gifted guitarist playing pieces from Dowland to Bach to 18th century English folk with a string of his own excellent compositions thrown in (my favorite was Avon, but my other half preferred Crossfell)
If you appreciate rare talent, then go and see Ben perform, you will not be disappointed.
Not only that, he's a jolly nice chap!
