Farr’s love for the country genre began with his musical step-father who played guitar for the legendary George Jones. Already a classically trained opera singer, at the age of 16 Farr accompanied his step-father on tour experiencing the road for the first time.
With bundles of passion for the genre coupled with an incredible talent, Farr released his debut single “Hot Mess” in 2012 which he co-wrote with Rhett Atkins. Having experienced a taste of what was to come, Farr signed with Columbia Nashville later that year (home of the country genre) and released his follow up single “Hello Goodbye”.
It was the release of his third single in 2013 “Redneck Crazy” which broke him into the country genre as it went straight to number two in the charts and went platinum. The New York Times named the single as 2013’s song of the summer. His debut album released later that year “Redneck Crazy” was a huge success as it secured the number two spot on the country charts and number five on the national chart.
With an incredible buzz surrounding this up and coming artist, Farr went on tour supporting artists such as: Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line and Lee Brice. In 2014 he was nominated as Music Row’s Breakthrough Artist of the Year and won Country Radio Seminar’s prestigious award New Faces of Country Radio. Later that year, Farr serenaded audiences with his first television appearances on the Today Show and Fox and Friends All American Summer effortlessly performing his single “Whiskey in my Water”.
Farr is known for his epic story-telling abilities combined with his incredible musicianship as he draws audiences to become an active part of his live performances.
When going in to country music, it helps to be born and raised in the country music capital of Nashville, Tennessee, as is the case with Tyler Farr. That is to say, the guy didn’t use only his upbringing to get him to success, but being surrounded by it and having the talent to back yourself up sure does help a lot. As a non-country music fan, I do have to admit that Tyler Farr is a very talented musician who deserves a bit more attention than he has already been getting. That’s not to say that he doesn’t have a lot of fans, because he does, but he does have a chance at gaining much more recognition from the mainstream audience.
Armed with his guitar, he takes the stage and instantly the crowd goes wild with love and support. He is extremely personable, especially since he takes the time to give back the love by speaking with the audience between songs. Because he has been touring with other artists, sometimes he’ll have a guest take the stage with him, such as Jason Aldean. Its really great to see and experience an artist in a genre that is completely out of your “normal music” and still feel comfortable.
