Having long found interest in electronic dance music, in 1995 Antoine Konrad founded the Basel-based club House Café, which would prove to be the city’s house music catalyst. Following a brief foray into Swiss hip-hop, DJ Antoine issued his debut album “DJ Antoine - The Pumpin’ House Mix” in 1998, followed by a series of EP releases, raising the musician’s national profile. It wasn’t however until the release of 2000’s mix album “Houseworks 1” that Konrad enjoyed his breakthrough success. Eventually going gold, the Top 20 Swiss Album proved hugely popular and paved the way for a second mix album “Mainstation” later that year.
From 2003 DJ Antoine began hosting his own weekly radio show, which has found listeners the world over, however has also continued to release steady string of new material. By this point Antoine had become a staple of Swiss house music, however it wasn’t until the release of 2006’s “DJ Antoine - Live in Moscow” and the single “This Time” that the DJ and producer became an internationally recognised figure. Two years later the musician came under scrutiny for his album “DJ Antoine - Stop!” which aimed to ameliorate the juvenile violence present in Switzerland. The record subsequently won the Best National Dance Album award at the Swiss Music Awards and paved the way for his most successful to date “DJ Antoine - 2010”.
The musician subsequently formed the labels Houseworks and Egoïste, and alongside business partner Mad Mark, has remixed tracks for the likes of Mary J Blige, P. Diddy, and Cyndi Lauper. Regularly finding the Top 10 in the Swiss Albums chart, DJ Antoine’s subsequent releases “Welcome to DJ Antoine”, “Sky Is the Limit”, and “We Are the Party” have cemented to producer’s position as a figurehead of Swiss house music and allowed Antoine to work with the likes of Bob Sinclar, Snoop Dogg and Timati.
As an occupation ‘house DJ’ can prove to be seriously lucrative if you do things right - just ask David Guetta - and the enduring - in fact, ever-burgeoning - popularity of Swiss turntablist DJ Antoine is testament to that. Since 1998, he’s been bringing his hugely energetic live shows and indubitably fresh take on the genre all over the world, having remixed the likes of Pitbull, Mary J. Blige and P. Diddy in the process. His live sets, now the thing of folklore within the genre, have often tended to be marathon affairs; as well as plucking and intelligently blending material from his extensive solo canon to date, he also brings in classics of the genre and a slew of his popular remixes, too. He’s carved out a reputation for working huge crowds with genuine aplomb, and in his native Switzerland - where he’s sold a seven-figure sum of records - he often plays in front of massive audiences. Recent shows have leant most heavily on last year’s Sky is the Limit LP, but expect a career-spanning affair whenever DJ Antonine plays - he keeps fans old and new happy.
