Robert Plant biography

Robert Plant, (August 20th, 1948), is a British singer/songwriter, best known for his work as the lead vocalist and lyricist for the rock band Led Zeppelin.

Born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, Plant was renowned for his trademark high pitched falsetto vocals, which lead to him being adorned with the title of the ‘greatest singer of rock’ time and time again. In a Poll carried out by Planet Rock, Plant came out on top for the greatest rock vocalist, and the title stuck. Throughout his career, the musician has had significant influence on great musicians, including Freddie Murcury. Additionally, in 2011 he was awarded the 1st place nomination for the greatest lead singer of all time from Rolling Stone Magazine for his time in Led Zeppelin.

As well as releasing countless albums with Led Zeppelin, Plant has 10 studio albums to his name, 8 of which have achieved either a gold or silver status. Plant’s talent as a multi-instrumentalist has helped tremendously in his composition over the years, playing harmonica, guitar, bass, and drums.

After leaving home at the age of 16 to pursue his music career, Plant became a member of the English Midlands blues scene, and his early work was heavily influenced by the genre. Jimmy Page approached Plant after hearing about him through contacts in the circuit and was astounded that he’d not been snapped up by labels previously, and they immediately began collaborating, ultimately forming Led Zeppelin.

During the production of Presence in the mid 70s, Plant was injured in car accident on holiday with his wife, which lead to a delayed release, and several cancelled tour dates. Renowned for his onstage banter and narratives of the origins of his songs, his lyrics were influenced by a variety of sources, from Tolkien, to the untimely death of his son, catalysing his mystical and spiritual lyrics.

After the disbanding of Led Zeppelin in the 80s, Plant’s solo career took off to much success, with all of his albums being extremely well received. As well as solo tours, he also collaborated further with Page, and they produced several records and performed shows together.

Brandi Carlile biography

Brandi Carlile is an American singer-songwriter from Ravensdale, Washington. Born in 1981 the folk rock singer has had two number one albums on the US Folk Music charts.

Musical pretty much since birth, Brandi Carlilie grew up listening to the likes of Johnny Cash and was encouraged to perform regularly by her mother. Learning the guitar in her teenage years, Carlilie began to take her craft more seriously and even dropped out of high school to pursue her musical passions.

Moving to Seattle, Brandi Carlile was picked up by Columbia Records in 2004 after she was seen performing at a series of music clubs throughout the city. A year later, the singer released her eponymous debut album with the label. The record was well received and won Brandi Carlile a large fan base after the album peaked at number 80 on the US Billboard 200 chart and hit the number one spot on the US Folk charts.

It wasn’t long until Brandi Carlile followed up the success of this first album with her 2007 release, “The Story”. The album peaked at number 41 on the US Billboard 200 and sold over 300,000 copies. Multiple tracks from the album were used in commercials and on television shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy”. She was also named one of Rolling Stone’s “Top 10 Artists to Watch in 2005”.

These opportunities introduced Brandi Carlile to a wider, commercial audience and this in turn helped her next two albums, 2009’s “Give Up the Ghost” and 2012’s “Bear Creek”, hit the top 30 on the Billboard 200 and the top five on the US Folk chart. “Bear Creek” actually hit the number one spot on the US Folk chart.

Brandi Carlile has toured alongside Ray LaMontagne, Hanson, Indigo Girls and Tori Amos. In 2014, Brandi Carlile was invited to sing the National Anthem at the NFL Playoff game between the Saints and the Seattle Seahawks.

Most rock performers that gain huge celebrity status in their early career tend to stick to the same formula whether or not they can pull it off or not, but Robert Plant is unlike these performers. Robert Plant knows he is aging and he has shifted his musical compositions into forms that he handles impeccably well. Other singers often do not have the nerve to shift their style of performance as they grow older, but musicians such as Tom Waits and Robert Plant know how to move with the times and end up venturing into new territories that see them producing the highest quality of music.
Robert Plant’s most recent concerts are a complete joy to see live. His shows contain a sense of maturity to them. He does not participate in the high-pitched shrieks and yells that he so masterfully produced in classic Led Zeppelin recordings, but his style has changed to the tune of more traditional folk standards, singing like an old soul with an angelic voice. It should not be a surprise that Robert Plant’s new style encompasses the ranges of traditional folk music. Robert Plant has been a fan of traditional folk standards since the early days of Led Zeppelin. The album, Led Zeppelin III, contains the folk standard, “Gallows Pole”, which Robert Plant frequently puts on his recent setlists. Robert Plant also performs other classic Led Zeppelin songs from his setlist such as “Tangerine” and a slow-downed, bluegrass rendition of “Black Dog”.
Robert Plant also tours with very skilled backing musicians. He has previously toured with the phenomenal bluegrass singer, Alison Krauss, who adds rich layers to Robert Plant’s songs by harmonizing in perfect pitch with him. Robert Plant has also brought other talented bands such as Band of Joy and Sensational Space Shifters with him on tour to perform new songs as well as some of our favorite Led Zeppelin tunes. Robert Plant is one of the most well respected singers still out there performing. Rolling Stone magazine has included him on the list of “100 Greatest Singers of All Time” and he has also been nominated for numerous Grammy awards. If you get a chance to see him live, Robert Plant will prove to you how his style has matured with him for the better and why he is one of the best singers still performing.

Oh my gosh! She and the band were AWESOME!! While her latest CD is great, in person was absolutely unbelievable! ! Go see Brandi's concert if anyway possible! The audience felt the bands energy and better yet the band felt our energy!

Witnessed their show in Madison Wisconsin. Must see them live to be appreciated for a live music show. They were impressive on how the harmonies we so beautifully done on a cold night at the UW Union theater. Great that they spent so much time at the merchandise table after that show. Can’t wait to see their show come to Chicago in March of 2019.

Canadian singer-songwriter, Kathleen Edwards, performs with a type of sincerity that will capture your heart with its emotive lyrics and hook you with the music’s catchy riffs.
Although Canadian, her music has often been compared to the Americana genre. She has been influenced by some of rock and roll’s greatest musicians such as Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and fellow Canadian, Neil Young, and these influences have clearly steeped through into her music. Kathleen Edwards tours with a very talented backing band consisting of a bass player, a drummer, an electric guitar player, and another singer that helps her perform vocal harmonies. The electric guitar player also plays slide guitar in order to give the music a country twang to it. The keyboard player sometimes performs smooth Wurlitzer sounding effects, as well as plays an organ to deepen the sound.
The band has minimal stage theatrics and relies more on the emotion of the presentation to resonate with the audience. Kathleen Edwards sometimes sings the song in a shaky presentation to create an emotional instability that is suppose to be reflected in some of her lyrics. The guitar player will also build up the soundscape of the slide guitar playing by gradually making the guitar sound like its losing control, which enhances the aspect of instability and brings the song to an emotive climax.
Kathleen Edwards has garnered much critical acclaim and a wide fan base due to her clever songwriting abilities. Her music has also appeared in notable films such as Elizabethtown, where her critically acclaimed song, “Back to Me”, was featured. Her setlist is sure to please fans by encompassing most of her material. She is also known to spice up her setlist with some covers, such as Nirvana’s “All Apologies”.

Brilliant gig! Went having never heard any of Margo Price's recordings, purely on the merit I understood her to be be an exciting new artist.

Turns out the hype wasn't wrong. Brilliantly sweet voice and excellent leading lady and show-woman with a superb band. She and her band provided a storming set that I would happily watch all over again

Waited to get a signed CD after the performance and got to chat with her briefly and she was as delightful as as had shone through during the gig, a truly lovely lady!
