Pipo Romero

Born in Cádiz in 1983, he has developed a distinctive approach to the steel-string guitar that he calls Spanish Acoustic Fingerstyle. Rhythm, melody and storytelling are central to a sound shaped by both his Spanish roots and an interest in musical exchange.

Growing up in Cádiz placed Romero at a crossroads of Mediterranean and Atlantic influences. That background informs his writing: the guitar becomes a space in which different traditions can meet without losing their individual character. His performances combine intricate counterpoint and rhythmic detail with clear melodic lines, expressive phrasing and room for quieter, more reflective passages.

Across four albums, Romero has continued to develop this musical language. His debut, Folklórico (2017), brought together flamenco and Atlantic folk influences and reached the Top 10 of the World Music Charts Europe. Ideario followed in 2019, widening the scope of his arrangements and composition. With Ikigai (2022), he explored a more atmospheric approach and entered the Transglobal World Music Chart. Alborada (2025) takes inspiration from the stillness and energy of early morning, bringing Spanish roots, Latin American colors and contemporary acoustic textures into a personal musical landscape.

Romero presented Alborada at WOMEX 2025 in Tampere and jazzahead! 2026 in Bremen. His international concert appearances also include Lincoln Center, Joe’s Pub and the Kennedy Center in the United States; Palais Montcalm in Canada; Budapest Jazz Festival; Cartagena International Guitar Festival in Colombia; the 315 Arts Center in Changwon, South Korea; and World Music Festival@Taiwan.

Beyond the stage, his music has reached audiences through film and television. His work on Berlín, the Netflix prequel to La Casa de Papel, earned a Best Soundtrack nomination at the Premios de la Academia de la Música. Whether composing for the screen or performing live, Romero places emotional expression and a strong sense of musical narrative at the heart of his work.
