Prior to the formation of Yeasayer in 2006, lead vocalists Chris Keating and Anand Wilder had developed their interest in rich harmonies in a barbershop quartet during high school. The pair subsequently parted ways to attend university, however reunited in New York and lay the groundworks for Yeasayer’s 2006 arrival. It was in New York Wilder and Keating invited Wilder’s cousin, Ira Wolf Tuton onboard as bassist, and later Luke Fasano on drums to complete the lineup.
After generating interest for themselves in and around New York, Yeasayer were invited to play the 2007 SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas. The successful show led to further inroads in to blogosphere’s discourse, which resulted in their debut album, “All Hour Cymbals”, receiving a healthy amount of publicity. An international tour including a host of festival dates followed in 2008, in which time Yeasayer consolidated their growing fan base, and began writing new material.
Recorded in the home of percussionist Jerry Marotta in Woodstock, New York, Yeasayer’s sophomore album “Odd Blood” was released in February 2010. Issued by Secretly Canadian, the album drew widespread critical acclaim from the music press, peaking at No. 63 on the Billboard 200. Inspired by an LSD trip in New Zealand, the album was led by the radio-friendly singles “Ambling Alp”, “O.N.E.”, and “Madder Red”, and supported by extensive worldwide touring. Two years later, marking their highest-charting album to date, Yeasayer released their third full-length album “Fragrant World” in 2012. Peaking at No. 44 in the U.S. and No. 47 in Australia, the record spawned the singles “Henrietta”, “Longevity”, and “Reagan’s Skeleton”.

My first Yeasayer concert turned out to be my favourite concert of 2010. And I went to a lot of concerts that year. I always see them when they’re in town. They have so much energy playing live - you don’t get that from just listening to their albums.
When they play live, you realise just how amazing their intricate arrangements and harmonies are. Their sets cover the psychedlic pop and electronic spectrum and everything in between. The band feed off each other so well and the energy and passion just builds throughout the set, reminding me of Animal Collective and TV on the Radio shows.Chris and Anand both sing and bring something different to each song, but when they harmonise on songs like “Madder Red”, it’s when they really come together live. Then there’s songs like “O.N.E” where the rhythms keep driving to such an intensity it bowls over the crowd. Their slower tracks like “Grizelda” and “Longevity” are haunting.
Without the use of all the drum loops and tracks that feature on their records, they still manage to create a completely full sound live, transforming each song into something else. It’s not until you see this band live that their music really makes sense.
Yeasayer was absolutely the BEST concert I have ever been to! Their sound is so unique, and their vocals incredible. I want them to sing me lullabies at night. They just seemed like the nicest guys, and you could tell that they love what they do. I would recommend seeing them live to anyone, even if you have never heard any of their songs before. They combine incredible instrumentals with interesting synthetic sounds that create their completely unique style. I will always remember this experience, and it has made me appreciate them as a band even more just seeing how passionate they are about their music.
Phenomenal live performance!!! I will admit that I had high expectations, and I wasn't disappointed. They had incredible energy, had some funny banter during the show, and played a fantastic set list. They're clearly extremely talented musicians...something you don't really know until you see a band live. I will absolutely see them any chance I get! (I also had the amazing fortune to meet them in person the night before, and they're super nice, rad guys!) You will only love their music more by seeing it live, I promise.
I had a feeling it was going to be a good night when we walked into the venue. I haven't been to such an intimate venue for such a big act before. Yeasayer were amazing. They played a good mix of new and old and Chris Keating is a great frontman. They gave a fantastic show despite the overwhelming heat - "hotter than Nashville" they described it as. To finish off the show they gave an outstanding performance of O.N.E. and the crowd went wild.
Enjoyed the concert but sure felt something was missing in terms of the sound. Also, they didn't play that long and didn't do " Rachel's Skeleton" which was disappointing. Would think twice before going to see them again.
The Yeasayer definitely surpasses my expectations. Their performance was fantastic. I was already a fan but now I feel compelled to make it a point to see them every time they're in town.
Great show. Amazing venue. Played everything you wanted to hear. Set design was spot on, and stage presence and banter was welcomed. Felt like it helped connect with the crowd.
