Every time I see Australians perform I’m thinking, wow, you sound extremely laid back, and I like that, and then I’ll turn to the person next to me and reiterate my thought, in an Australian accent. Fun. The John Steel Singers are a sort of indie rock and roll garage band sound so English it’s unreal. Sort of like that multi platinum selling band the Killers; Las Vegas’ finest export that exploded onto the scene about a decade ago and everyone thought they were from Bristol or something or other! Anyway, that’s sort of the direction I can see this band going in, I’m sure they would make such a splash here in the UK with their sound, which has such a party vibe to it. You can’t help but dance when watching them perform live. It’s all about their riffs and choruses, playing clean sounding guitars that are on the very cusp of distorting. Scott Bromiley is a very charismatic front man, sure, he looks like the most hipster front man in the world with his huge beard and glasses, but he knows exactly what he’s doing, and he gives the audience exactly what they ordered in the form of songs such as their biggest single yet, “Happy Before” and “Everything’s a Thread”. Clever guys. One to watch.
