With their punk, indie rock, garage rock revival style, Dirty Pretty Things concerts can feel like you're back in your punk days. They were formed by Carl Barat after the Libertines broke up. Some of the songs are upbeat so it sounds like some upbeat punk music. The audience really get into it dancing around like a bunch of happy pretty things.
Often smoking ciggies and sticking them in the necks of their guitars whenever they can legally smoke in doors and flinging their mop of hair around like they just don't care and drinking down bottles of red wine there is a real sense of the rebels they are and the music that reflects that. The song ‘Come Closer’ sounds like some kind of teen love song of a boy pining for the popular girl in class. Though they aren't together anymore, you can experience their awesome shows thanks to Youtube and still feel the intense power they can produce through their melodic punk style.
Being from England the four-piece band from Salisbury with their British accents even more make you feel like your back in the 70's or 80's punk scene. The band's debut album, Waterloo to Anywhere, was phenomenal - I preferred over anything the Libertines put out. The band toured extensively in the UK during the first half of 2006. They were also big on the festival circuit during the summer of 2006, playing at several UK festivals, including the Gonville & Caius College May Ball 2006, Isle of Wight Festival, Wireless Festival, T in the Park, Kendal Calling and the Irish festival Oxegen. It really is a shame that they disbanded in 2008 because they truly where a rare talent.
