Matthew Perryman Jones’ profile has been boosted over the years by song placements in a variety of films and TV shows so it figures that there is something deeply cinematic about his sound - A sound so powerful, it can turn an intimate setting into a huge event.
With a Dylan-esque rawness, Matthew performs often only backed by the gentle strum of his guitar leaving the deep sorrow in his songs nothing to hide behind. He demonstrates a voice that can soar through highs and mournfully pick over lows, all with a richness that belies the wavering fragility of his songs. Crowds will find themselves transported to movie scenes or looking back misty eyed to emotional times in their lives - Matthew really knows how to play with the heartstrings.
It’s hard to say exactly what effect Matthew’s music will have on you but when such delicate melodies are played with this level of sincerity and clarity you can guarantee it’s going to have some effect and any emotional reaction can make for a superb live show.
He was charming, funny and engaging. I enjoyed his choice of songs that he opted to play. He also had another singer named Molly Parton and she too had a lovely voice. Great show.
