Drop Dead Gorgeous who hail from Denver, Colorado, bring those stratospheric vocals to the table at this Vans Warped Tour performance, with their lush guitar licks, those semi quaver fills that replicate machine blasts, with every thing just tessellating into place to create a wild metalcore/posthardcore sound that keeps the emo kids happy.
They open with their song “Dressed for Friend Requests” lead by piano just launches mercilessly in a very staggered beat complete with driven guitars that use dischords creating a very unsettling atmosphere, but this audience absolutely love it. 90% of this audience is dressed from head to toe in black with tight jeans piercings everywhere and a number of tattoos. There is almost this vibe coming from them that makes you feel unwelcome if you aren’t one of them, but that’s just the audience. Drop Dead, Gorgeous don’t discriminate when it comes to their fans, Danny Stillman making it very clear that he is ever so grateful for the fans that got them over the pond to the UK in the first place.
Their set is closed with the thunderous “They’ll Never Get Me” which sounds almost like an angry dear diary with Stillman’s heart wrenching vocals sounding as though he is confessing. Definitely a genre I’m unfamiliar with but interesting to watch from an open minded musical perspective.
