Born the daughter of a ballet instructor and famous musician Anders Östman, Tove Styrke was introduced to performing arts from an early age. In 2009 Styrke competed in the notorious musical talent competition Swedish Idol, where she placed third out of all the 11,000 competitors that auditioned. The singer proved a popular artist, in the mould of similar artists Robyn and Annie, and was subsequently signed by Sony Music in December 2009. The following year Styrke issued her debut single “Million Pieces”, which featured songwriting contributions from Adam Olefins and Lykke Li.
Later that year Styrke released her self-titled, debut album, featuring production from Patrik Berger, Lotus & 2manyfreckles, and Peter Ågren. Rising to No. 10 on the Swedish Albums chart, the record earned popular reviews and spawned the subsequent singles “White Light Moment” and “High and Low”. The single “White Light Moment” was later nominated for “Best Song of the Year” at the Swedish Grammy equivalent, “Grammisgalan”, before the singer won the “Best Newcomer” award at the P3 Guild. In February 2011 aiming to attract listeners of the dance scene, Styrke released the remix EP “High and Low” featuring six remixes of the title track.
In November that year the singer made her UK debut playing two London shows in support of her new EP “Borderline”. After signing with RCA Records, Styrke premiered a new single “Ego”, which would later appear on her sophomore album, “Kiddo”. Released in June 2015, “Kiddo” peaked at No. 14 on the Swedish Album Chart and was supported by extensive touring including a show at SXSW.
