Perri was musical from a young age, having taught herself the guitar at the tender age of 16. She frequently sang in musical theatre as a child and had an extremely musical older brother, whom she claims inspired her from a young age. She also cites the rock band Guns N Roses as having inspired her during adolescence.
Perri’s song, ‘Jar of Hearts, which she wrote in 2009, was featured on So You Think You Can Dance during the show of June 30, 2010. It was subsequently downloaded 48,000 times in its first week. After this exposure, Perri secured a record deal and has been enjoying a steady stream of success ever since. ‘Jar of Hearts’ progressed to an album, entitled ‘Lovestrong’, on May 10, 2011. It debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200, selling 58,000 copies in its first week alone. Perri’s road to success was sudden and powerful as she soon became a household name following the enormous popularity of ‘Jar of Hearts’.
As well as this notable single, Perri has released a number of hits including ‘Arms’ and ‘A Thousand Years’ which was featured in the hit film Twilight: Breaking Dawn- Part 1. This also enabled the hit to achieve enormous exposure. She performed this song at the BMI Pop Awards on 14 May 2013 and won an award for the ballad. Her latest hit from her second, recently released, album is titled ‘Human’ and has also been a huge success for the pop crooner.

Seeing Christina Perri live is quite the experience to say the least. Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely love quite a few of her songs like "Jar of Hearts", "A Thousand Years", and most recently "Human", and she really does seem to emotionally connect with everything she sings on stage to the point that her energy is infectious.
The only problem I have with her live though is that, to me at least, it just seemed like her voice wasn't strong enough to belt out a lot of the higher notes that her songs tend to build up to. In "Human" especially, it often sounded like she was struggling to reach the levels that the song requires, but her lower register is absolutely beautiful and I definitely wish she would rework the arrangement of some of her songs so that they don't seem as challenging to take on as they do.
The crowd tends to be very supportive of her though, and while there are a few complaints here or there, everyone still cheers her on and shows respect. She also plays the piano while singing and that part is perfection that I could never dispute.
She's definitely talented and very skilled, but her voice just seems to struggle in parts of her set list in person. Nonetheless, it's still a fun experience for the most part and I would recommend seeing her. Chances are you will be so caught up in the moment that any little imperfections won't come off as noticeable if you're not specifically looking for them.
Christina Perri absolutely wows on stage. She has a brilliant stage presence and her voice is absolutely chilling. She looked beautiful on stage, dressed in a simple long dress, and she let her voice do all the talking as the stage was relatively bare and she was accompanied with a set of backing musicians and nothing else. Perri’s famous low tones wowed the audience and she managed to hit all the high notes as well, putting on a truly impressive performance. She would accompany a few of her songs with the piano which really added to the performance, and showed off her skills as a musician. Perri performed all of her hit songs as well as a few lesser known ones, all of which were well received by the audience. Perri opened the hauntingly beautiful ‘Jar of Hearts’, an incredible start to the show, and ended with one of her most recent hits, ‘Human’. She also performed ‘A Thousand Years’, ‘Arm’, ‘The Lonely’ and ‘Burning Gold’ which were all met with cheers and applause.
Philadelphian singer/songwriter Christina Perri is somehow refreshing in today's market despite taking the genre of pop back to its very core. She broke through during a time when female singers were being intentionally sensational, the likes of Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga all vying for attention. Christina stuck to her intentions and kept artistic integrity whilst still managing to cut through the facade with her commanding vocal.
The crowds gathered tonight chatter in quiet anticipation before Perri modestly steps out onstage leading her accompanying musicians. She smiles broadly at the sight before her and begins a setlist demonstrating pure class. There are the expected cheers for '1000 Years' and 'Distance' but what is unusual is how Perri manages to entrance a room completely with her balladic music. By the emotive encore of 'Jar Of Hearts', the audience realise why Perri dismisses the gimmicks as with a voice that strong they are simply not needed.
I loved it. Great songs, band was excellent, Christina was very engaging. You can always hear the songs anytime you want on Spotify but getting personal with the singer is what live music is all about. She obviously was having a great time , the crowd was into it, the amphitheater was a great venue for a summer night. Wonderful evening.
