The band was formed in 2010 by lead vocalist Andrew “Andy Leo” Velasquez, guitarist Brandon Hoover, bassist Hayden Tree and former keyboardist Austin Duncan, whilst they were all in high school. The current line-up is completed by second vocalist David Escamilla, lead guitarist Benn Suede and drummer Brent Taddie. The band also has a silent “seventh” member of the band, Brendan Barone, who acts as creative director and songwriter. He is an integral part of the band’s sound and vision and has previously appeared on stage in 2011 on bass and screamed vocals.
Crown the Empire released their debut EP “Limitless” in 2011. It was well received by the metalcore community and it was largely thanks to their fans that they were subsequently signed to Rise Records in March 2012. The band released a cover of Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger” as a thank you gift to their supporters. Their first single “Makeshift Chemistry” was released in October 2012, shortly followed by the release of their debut album, “The Fallout”.
“The Fallout” has a post-apocalyptic theme, which began as a metaphor for a failed relationship. Vocalist Andy Leo has said that the idea came about after a member had broken up with a girlfriend – after he was told he “ended her world”, the split was transformed into something much bigger and darker with the use of poetry. “Memories of a Broken Heart” is a song which encapsulates this theme perfectly and is one of the band’s most popular and well-known songs. The band released a two-disc re-issue of “The Fallout” in 2013, which included a re-recording of their EP “Limitless”. They also performed on their first US headline tour in the same year.
In July 2014, Crown the Empire won Alternative Press Magazine’s award for Best Breakthrough Band, and their second album “The Resistance: Rise of the Runaways” reached number one on the iTunes Rock charts and debuted at number 7 on the Billboard Top 200. They have toured with bands such as We Came as Romans, Pierce the Veil, Attack Attack!, Issue, Asking Alexandria and The Used, and played at Vans Warped Tour in 2013 and 2014. Their theatrical and energetic live performance are something which the band have become known for – it won’t be long until Crown The Empire are playing bigger stages!

Texan metalcore outfit, Crown the Empire since inception in 2010 have steadily become one of those bands to definitely watch out for. In 2012, the band made the decision to expand the CTE family through adding a second vocalist in the shape of David Escamilla to compliment Andy Leo’s already distinctive vocal technique. Having toured with bands such as Pierce The Veil, Of Mice & Men and Attack! Attack! saw them quickly rise in popularity as they won over audiences with their blend of electro post-hardcore.
It’s no surprise then that live settings are really where CTE can bring their songs to life. Characterised by highly theatrical elements running through the very essence of their music, you can expect that they will provide you with one heck of a live show. Playing tracks such as “Johnny’s Revenge” and “Johnny Ringo” have a playfulness about them comparable to circus themes. Shrouded in strobe lighting, the audience can’t help but jump and down as a sea of bodies sway from side to side with the occasional crowd surfer enthused through the energy emitting from “The Fallout” and “Memories of a Broken Heart”. With the introduction of each song (even with the newest ones like “Machines” or “Initiation”) a massive cheer erupts from the crowd, evidence of their strong and passionate fanbase. Crown the Empire possess the perfect balance between poppy catchy choruses, electronic subtleties and post-hardcore breakdowns that moves you both physically and emotionally.
the show was absolutely amazing. all the bands were crazy and you could feel the energy in the room. it is one of the best shows i went to. when me and my friend first got there, the band Light Up The Sky was performing. we were standing on the steps just dancing and slightly headbanging to the beat, seeing people create a moshpit and start surfing the crowd, it was so cool. after a while, we decided to make our way through the crowd to the very front, and ended up getting there just before blessthefall came on. they were awesome as hell! Beau Bokan was going crazy and sprayed water on everyone, it was so awesome. soon, Crown The Empire came on with the opening song "Are You Coming With Me" and i just lost it. i was freaking out, the crowd was so energized, we were all jumping and screaming and just having a good rock on. we made a couple of friends and even got to meet and take pictures with some of the band members. i will never forget that night. thank you to those bands, including Too Close To Touch, for giving me the best night ever! Also huge thank you for Brent Taddie's drumstick :)
Came for Attila which was amazing as always. The other bands did great as well. Sound was slighty off this time I thought. Attila should have headlined not Crown the Empire. I am not a fan of Crown the Empire personally however the sound for them was on point. I didn't stay the whole show due to the younger crowd being obnoxious and rude. The ninja pits are absolutely ridiculous. That is not moshing. Moshing isn't about who can kick the highest or do the best acrobatics. No one comes to a show to get kicked. Moshing is about energy and dancing. Dancing around together, circle pits, wall of death, crowd surfing. When you dance a requirement is usually both feet on the ground not in the air with arms flailing. I honestly think the line up was all over and drew in the much younger crowd than I was expecting. I will rethink that decision for the future which sucks bc I am a die hard fan of Attila and have not missed a show they have performed in PA in 3 years. Suck my F$&!
Worst concert ever out of the 7 I've gone to. Show started an hour after the scheduled time, and intermissions were 30+ minutes long. Considering this was their last tour stop, I expected a lot more. The energy and interest was not there.
On to other topics that don't involve the performance. What was up with security that night? There were a couple of guys starting multiple fights and almost hurting a lot of innocent people. I believe two of them finally got kicked out a while later, but it took wayy too long. The band performing at the time should have spoke out as well.
Overall, the concert stunk, and for the first time ever, I don't think it was worth my money.
The show was amazing, and Crown The Empire outperformed the other bands, including the headlining band.
The band dynamic and skill goes up every time they play, and that hasn't changed.
I saw them at Warped Tour before their third studio album was released and was impressed by the album-to-live transition for a group of young men.
If you're reading this Crown The Empire, I've followed your music since the beginning, and your music helped me stay sane through two tours in Afghanistan.
Thank you for all that you do, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

My husband and I took our 14yr old daughter and a friend to see Crown The Empire @ Baltimore Sound Stage and we all had an amazing time, to our surprise may i add. The band was extremely exciting for all of us. We are in the process of looking for them to see again as soon as possible. We also enjoyed the other bands that evening, but CTE was by far the best band of the evening!! Our daughter absolutely loves CTE and listens to them daily. Looking forward to your next performance gentlemen :)
The boys were really fun and held a good show! In the beginning I had the feeling that Andy was a bit off with some notes, but then it got much better. Also sometimes it was a bit hard to hear his screams properly, but I'd say that's probably the venue's fault since it isn't that big, so the music was pretty loud. Overall a really enjoyable concert and I hope to see them in Vienna again soon!:)
Crown The Empire, in just one word, understated. They weren't on the main stage, which was quite shocking, because the waves of people crowding the stage. They performed with so much life and energy that they deserved the main stage. Everywhere you went in that crowd another pit opened up! They killed it. They're an amazing band to see live, and I can't wait for them to be in Pa again.

Out of all concerts I've been to this was definitely my favourite, the supporting acts were amazing and had the crowd bouncing which was actually a first for me. I now have three new bands I like. Crown the Empire were absolutely awesome and I would definitely go again.
