Dan the Automator

Dan the Automator is an awesome performer that doesn't need the glam and lights to make his concert awesome. Last year at the Hiero Day festival out in San Francisco, I got to hear him spin his tunes live. He didn't wear anything outstanding, his attitude was unassuming, but his music said it all. He brands himself a hip-hop artist, and I'll agree with that loosely. I'd classify him as a borderline electronic producer. His audience was as eclectic as the city itself, and all of them were taken by his sound. The outdoor venue was ideal for the performance, and although it was crowded there was plenty of room for people to dance and "get down" to his songs.Dan the Automator has been in the business since 1994, and not only makes music, he does production for other major names in the industry including the Gorillaz. He is a presence in the hip hop/electronic music production scene that has garnered as much criticism as he has respect. His music varies from coarse and abrasive to a much more melodic instrumental feel, and he has the ability to take his listener across the entire spectrum of emotions. Dan the Automator is worth a listen in his own music, as well as his production and remixes.
