Jazz is one of the most important musical genre’s there has ever been but as we head further into the 21st century, its impact on popular culture is dwindling. That’s where musicians like French born Erik Truffaz come in. By mixing elements of rock, hip hop and dance music into his jazz fusion style, Erik is fighting to keep Jazz music contemporary and stop it being lost to an entire generation. And from what I can see he’s doing a damn good job.
His sets are a journey that warp sonically and dynamically as you see the different influences mesh into the sound. There’s a rotating cast of singers and even rappers (not an everyday sight at a Jazz concert) that come on to feed off the vibe of the band which can range to everything from a funky back beat to a trace like explosion of jazz euphoria. Live Jazz is a uniquely chaotic experience and it’s a shame that so many people reject the idea of experiencing it but hopefully if people like Erik Truffaz continue put on shows like his there may be a resurgence.
For me that was the first time to listen Eric Truffaz live show and I was quite excited. At last the show started with some delay and we realized in a short time that was worth waiting for. It was amazing night with pure talent and virtuous musicians. They played some improvized jazz together by supporting each other and I really loved it. Long live Eric Truffaz; long live jazz!
