Brazilian singer-songwriter Michel Teló oozes confidence as he take to the stage. Dressed in a simple leather jacket and jeans, it is clear this performance will be about the songs, not a fancy light show or tightly choreographed dance. Performing mostly upbeat songs, with clear influences from traditional Latin American music, as well as some more modern pop. It is on these upbeat tracks that Teló seems most in his element, using the whole of the stage to great effect. It is clear the crowd know every word, and he frequently employs the age old trick of letting them take over vocal duties for a line or two, which makes his performance seem more personal, and allows the crowd to feel more involved. When he does slow it down, he is able to fully demonstrate his vocal prowess, leading the crowd in huge sing-a-longs, helped by his talent at picking out a catchy tune. Even to a non-Portuguese speaker, his songs will remain in your head. His live set up is simple, with a backing band, embracing the traditional side of his music with instruments such as an accordion, with a video screen offering occasional graphics such as women dancing, but his stage presence, vocal prowess and ear for a catchy tune will be enough to keep you engaged and interested throughout.
