In order to standout in the cutthroat music world, you need something that will make you stand out. For Damien Dempsey, he uses his Irish culture to blend it together with modern lyrics to produce something very unique. He also sings both in English and Irish, which can make you just swoon when you watch him perform his live set.
The six foot two performer commands your attention despite having a band behind him; including, a keyboardist, violinist, and bass player. As soon as the first chord is strummed, you can already sense that there is something about the song that makes it completely unique and unlike anything you’ve ever heard. As you watch him play his guitar and sing, you can see how much emotion he is filled with from the words that he wrote, and you immediately start to feel the same emotions. He is extremely personable, and speaks between each of his songs as he tunes up his guitar. Sometimes he’ll talk about the inspiration about a song; sometimes he’ll tell a little anecdote about something that involved him and a past performance. I really enjoyed watching his live set, and left telling myself that I needed to make another opportunity to watch his live show.
Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!!! What a show! I have been to hundreds of gigs over the years and some truly amazing ones at that. I've seen all the greats - Neil Young, Dylan, Stones etc. but Damien Dempsey last night has to be one of the best ever! What emotion, energy, warmth and sincerity! From beginning to end I lost count of the amount of times I was reduced to tears. And the audience - second to none! The atmosphere was the best, every word to every sing was sung by the crowd. As someone who has only recently discovered Damien Dempsey, I was bowled over by his energy, captivated by his charm and knocked sideways by the pure passion of his performance !
Damo was great as usual. The NYC crowd, with alot of Irish transplants, was into it from the first note of Sing all our cares away to the last chorus of It's All Good. "Love Yourself"..was still being sung in the men's room at the end of the show and into the streets of the lower East Side. See him when you get a chance!!!!
Fantastic concert. The acoustics were great, and despite the singer's disclaimer about feeling rather rough after a hectic week of touring, he played with his customary passion and greeted the audience with his usual warmth. Class act.
Unreal! Great tallent, great atmosphere and all round preformance excellent. A brilliant way to spend a St. Patricks weekend with fiends in London. I would definately recommend going to see Damien in concert.
