Growing up my mom was a huge fan of Eurythmics, which meant that their songs were almost always playing and it also why I was able to see Annie Lennox live. I was luckily not the youngest person around, as many people also brought their children. The show was at the Hollywood Bowl, which is probably one of the best venues that exist. It’s and outdoor venue, which is perfect for enjoying southern California summer nights, and it has the best acoustics for the number of people it holds.
The whole performance consisted of two opening acts and then Annie Lennox took to the stage. She performed a mix of songs from her solo stuff to her stuff with Eurythmics, including their most famous, “Sweet Dream (Are Made Of These). It was hard to really see, since we were towards the back, but if there was one place to be in the back during a show, it’s the Hollywood Bowl. The acoustics in the place are amazing, so the sound quality was exactly what it should have been. She has got an amazing, unique voice and a plethora of hits. It was really nice to see how many people or different age ranges were enjoying her music.
The concert was a little different from the usual concerts, a few songs played solo, then the stage had a set on it like a livingroom set up.
An interviewer came on & started with questions & answers from Annie (Diva) from the moment her parents got engaged till present time.
All very interesting seeing Annie (Diva) from a baby till primary school.
She wore her heart on her sleeve infront of all & was very insightful, loved how she spoke of her hometown & the tenements & no inside toilet, we then stopped for an interval.
Upon returning it continued with interview mode but more focused on Annie's (Diva) charity work & how her music evolved till present day, then Annie (Diva) left, the curtain closed & the interviewer entertained us till she then introduced Annie (Diva) & her band & the SHE let ripp & then we hit concert mode.
Was bloody fantastic & the crowd got to their feet & place was bouncing & unfortunately & sadly after her 5th song we had to bolt for train home.
KEEP ROCKING DIVA x
While studying in Madrid in 1989, I learned the Eurythmics were scheduled to play in Barcelona. I somehow persuaded six friends to take the train halfway across Spain with me to see them perform. It was the most spectacular concert EVER!
The story gets even better: The road crew had been on a global tour and we were the first American/English speakers they'd encountered in months, so they invited us backstage. I had the great honor of meeting the 'Queen' herself, Annie Lennox, and expressing my total and complete fandom. She covered her throat and nodded to me in gratitude. What a total thrill! To top it all off, the guitarist then invited us to an after-party at a nightclub called 'The Up & Down' Club. We stopped by for a quick drink, but unfortunately, couldn't stay long.
I remember this night like it was yesterday and would do anything to see her perform live again, preferably here in New York City."
