If I were to describe how Sonic Jesus feels, I would say it's like flying joyfully through a dark tunnel, forever. I went to see the nascent band with great expectations, and I wasn't disappointed. The venue was a small cave-like bar with a small audience. I wouldn't complain about that because I got the chance to stand really close to the band.
They played around 4 tracks from each of the two albums they have. Personally I would have liked if the whole show was from the first album "Neither Virtue Nor Anger". It's darker, louder and more original than the second. However the tracks from the other album were also great live.
I would like to see more concerts of this band in the future, and more of their work in general!
Their first gig in Manchester got postponed due to an electrical fault at the venue. Some years later they popped up on Songkick as support for The Telescopes at The Tallyrand in Levenshulme.
Sonic Jesus are a bunch of very talented musicians. The set included tracks from all their albums and reflected their progression from something identifiable as modern post-punk towards something akin to 'Psyche'.
10/10 for their performance, hope they come back soon, can't recommend them enough.
