Born around 20 miles outside of Atlanta, Georgia, U.S., Raury Tullis has reached international popularity for his eclectic mix of folk, indie, rap, soul, and R&B, defined by its lack of definition. The singer’s initial musical excursion came playing guitar in a cover band during high school, however this limited, unoriginal output failed to satisfy Raury’s desire to create something new. A few years later, having graduated from high school, Raury held an 18th birthday music festival, named Raurfest and announced he had signed with major-label Columbia Records. At the same time the singer-songwriter issued his debut musical release, the free digital mixtape “Indigo Child”.
Complete with soulful and impassioned lyrics, Kid Cudi-esque spoken word pieces, acoustic guitar rhythms and carefully crafted percussion, the record represents a modern upheaval of traditional genres. Following the release the singer contributed to SBTRKT’s 2014 full-length “Wonder Where We Land”, notably on the track “Higher”. Raury was subsequently shortlisted for the BBC Sound of 2015 poll, ultimately landing in fourth place, extending the anticipation for his studio full-length. In early 2015 he uploaded the single “Fly”, featuring Malik Shakur, to his SoundCloud page and was linked to some of the most relevant artists around today.
