Vampillia are without doubt my favourite band to see live in the world right now. Every single time they play, they bring a joyful, weird intensity that matches their alternately beautiful and brutal music. With a cast of musicians that can swell to almost a dozen at times, they build from a whisper of piano and violin to a gutteral black metal explosion and back with a clarity and precision that seems impossible given how wild and organic everything comes across on stage. The language barrier seems no barrier to the rapturous reception that has greeted them every time they have left the stage, band and audience alike grinning from ear to ear. Encompassing minimal classical, epic post-rock, melodic black metal and experimental hardcore chaos, you're taken on a hell of a journey in under an hour.
