DESIGN A WAVE
Polluted-disco practitioner Tom Hirst – aka Design A Wave - rides high on a fug of deep unknowingness. Releases have ridden in on Rush Hour, Alien Jams and Alter but Design A Wave’s world is always teasingly soft-focus, immersed in day-glo digital currents, pixellated into a questioning, thrilling House music. Evoking a digital Dali, Hirst’s live performances ensure the body and the head never know what the other is doing.
BECOMING REAL
Microscopically deconstructed machine-music, Toby Ridler’s solo work as Becoming Real has evolved into a hyperreal filter with which to view the world: clearly influenced by dance cultures and noise bacteria, his new ZONE release shows a restless spirit happy to revel in the glorious possibilities that music in 2015 offers. At times abrasive at others wide-eyed, Ridler’s live performances are focused and masterly.
TIPPEX DAYS
Tippex Days is the manky mask behind which Conal Blake lurks. The erstwhile Whilst man grapples with internal dialogues writ large on analog drum in mid-meltdown, an improvisatory, unprovoked attack on movement music.
WILT WAGNER
Northumberland-harboured Acid-drenched oddball Wilt Wagner - Michael Patterson in another life – dots and loops beats and bleeps with the most charming awkwardness on any side of Hadrian’s Wall, a tripped out excursion into diplomatic immunity.
