Wednesday 27th June, The Borderline, London, Cordovas. It’s another hot one in the city as we head to the basement bar of legendary venue The Borderline. Cordovas hailing from Nashville deliver perfect harmony led American music. It’s not Americana, it’s not country just good quality guitar led songs about America. They could be the Band, The Allmans, CSN but probably an amalgam of all of them.
It’s a small but enthusiastic crowd that welcomes them to these shores. The set pulling largely from their debut album showcase both the fine musicianship but also the three part harmonies of the two lead guitarists and bass playing leader of the gang Joe Firstman.
All three take turns on lead vocals through the night and you can’t help be impressed with the songs and associated guitar solos. ‘Southern Rain’ and ‘Louisiana Hurricane’ are particularly great. The tracks drive along and transport you to the American south rolling on a dusty highway with a dog and a bottle of Jack as company.
A good night with a fine band who have a new album out shortly and if you’re a fan of roots country rock then these are a must see. Spread the word and let’s see if we can get a larger turnout in London next time.
Keep on country blues rockin y’all
