With electronic music, it’s common for the artists to simply prerecord their tracks, and DJ in their live shows just by regurgitating their recorded material, but Glasperlenspiel take a totally different approach to the genre, playing all of their instruments and vocals live on stage. They opened their show with the track Moment, with Carolin Niemczyk on vocals, and Daniel Grunenberg playing the synth and electronic drums, with a band backing them up. The vocal harmonies that Daniel was singing over Carolin’s lead vocals were stunning and held everyone in the audience in absolute silence until they erupted into tumultuous applause.
They were great at interacting with the audience, and when they played Echt, they got everyone singing along with the chorus and even people who didn’t know the lyrics were dancing along like crazy. Seeing them perform live put a whole different spin onto their music, as it was incredible to see how they create the layers of sounds live, and watching them use the loop pedals was incredible. Also, their sections of improvisations were really special, as they don’t appear on the recordings, so it was a one time opportunity to see them.
