Lee Fields can best be described as James Brown's younger, suave doppelganger. The man has everything, a gorgeous sound, a soulful voice, the passion of someone just discovering their talent and enthusiasm for what they do, and the charisma of a classic jazz/soul performer. His charm and completely relaxed approach to performance and his fans is a quality rarely seen in artists nowadays, and he definitely rocks the look better than most.
Recently, Fields has been working with The Expressions, and the collaboration performed at WYSIWIG festival in Vermont a couple of months. I went into the festival already pumped for the music lineup, and uncertain of what to expect from this artistic melding - I was definitely not disappointed. The Expressions bring a freshness to Fields' already stellar performance. When they sang their track 'Paralyzed' (a personal favourite), the entire audience was transported.
Lee Fields is a class act, and watching him perform in any setting is a true privilege. He brought something really special to the stage at the festival, a kind of finesse and unadulterated joy that really shone through in his voice. He's an artist who's been around for a long time, knows what he's doing, and knows exactly how to get right underneath your skin with his music, in the best and most heart-warming way possible.
