Miami-based vocal trio, Exposé, sauntered into commercial success in the 1980s and ’90s with their Latin-tinged disco pop, whilst also not being shy of the odd ballad.
Masterminded by producer/songwriter Lewis A. Martineé, Exposé formed in 1984, with the original lineup of Alé Lorenzo, Sandra Casanas (Sandeé) and Laurie Miller. Their debut single, “Point of No Return,” was released that same year, with the track growing to become a major hit in clubs across the country, hailed as on of the finest examples of Latin freestyle.
The success of their debut led to a recording contract with Arista Records, with their second single, “Exposed to Love,” appearing in 1985. Despite their growing fame, the members of Exposé left to pursue solo careers in 1986, with Lorenzo and Casanas following a similar style, whereas Miller took to jazz-tinged cabaret. This upheaval did little to dampen Exposé’s popularity, with their third single, “Come Go With Me,” also becoming a club hit in 1987.
The trio solidified their lineup shortly after, with Jeanette Jurado taking the lead vocals and Gioia Bruno and Ann Curless offering back-up. Their self-titled debut was released that same year, which included the ballad, “Seasons Change,” which scored the trio a number one hit on Billboard’s singles chart. The album went on to sell over three million copies, setting the stage for their second, 1989’s “What You Don’t Know.” There were hits aplenty once again with tracks like “When I Looked At Him” and “Tell Me Why.”
Sadly Bruno suffered from a benign throat tumor, which left her unable to sing, forcing her to leave the group. Kelly Moneymaker took her place, yet Exposé didn’t manage to continue their momentum, with their 1992 album only finding a solo hit in “I’ll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me.” Exposé were dropped by Arista after this decline in popularity and the trio broke up in 1996.
After various solo ventures, Exposé returned triumphantly in 2006, reuniting for a tour that saw them travel the length and breadth of North America. In 2010, rumours emerged that they were beginning work on a new album, releasing a number of singles that teased fans for the anticipated new release.
