The music of Bohemia and Moravia has long been shaped by local songs, dances and musical traditions.
Smetana, Dvořák and Martinů each found their own ways of transforming these influences into distinctive concert works, while the arrangements of Slovak songs offer a direct connection to their origins.
The programme culminates in Dvořák’s String Quintet in G major, a work full of colour, energy and melodic invention.
